SUNNY NAGPAUL
— My past, personally, is marked with a lot of anxiety from problems in my household, and that anxiety was deepened in my experiences growing up as a minority. The more recent past, however, has been marked by something else: overcoming and reframing that anxiety in ways that are no longer so destructive. Through my paintings, I try to reframe concepts that usually trigger anxiety, like loneliness or heartbreak, in a more vibrant and peaceful setting, and in my way I'm creating a new way of existing in spaces that once hurt me, but with more power and autonomy rather than recurring cycles of deep worry.
